Where To Sow: Broad beans are sown outdoors in open ground. Make sure the soil is well dug, and ideally will have been manured the previous Autumn. In mild areas with a sheltered, well drained site, is possible to sow Broad Beans in the Autumn, for all others it is recommended to sow Broad Beans in March through May. Sow each bean in 5cm deep drills spaced 20cm apart, in rows 50cm apart. There is no need for thinning Broad Beans.
What To Do Next: As soon as young beans appear at the base of the plant it's time to 'pinch out' the growing tips. Go to the very top of the plant and remove the tip with two leaves attached, you can compost these or steam them as a leaf vegetable
Handy Tip: Spacing shouldn't be compromised as good airflow is essential for combating fungal disease. Pick from the bottom up when ripe and continue to harvest frequently.
