Broccoli White Sprouting White Eye is a quality variety producing white spears, for cropping in February and March.
SOW: late April to May
HARVEST: February - March
WHERE TO SOW:
Purple Sprouting Early Broccoli is sown in mid April and harvested mid March. Broccoli is an unfussy plant that, while preferring a heavy, well dug soil with full sun, will happily tolerate less than ideal conditions.
Sow the seed about 10cm apart in rows which are 50cm apart. Cover the seeds with 1.5cm of soil and water well. The seeds take 10 days to germinate. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them to 20cm apart.
History: Brassica oleracea is native to the Mediterranean and Asia Minor. The Romans grew sprouting broccoli and prized it highly, according to Pliny, in the 2nd century after Christ. This is the same, form that has remained popular in Italy.
