Where To Sow: Early sowings in trays under glass at 16ºC. Later sowings in pots or trays in a cold frame or unheated glasshouse.
What To Do Next: Heated sowings should be pricked off into trays 5cm apart as soon as large enough to handle, hardened off before planting in growing site 30cm apart. Later sowings should be thinned before planting out in June.
Handy Tip: When preparing for use, flesh will turn brown unless kept in a bowl of water with some lemon juice until required.
Nutritional Value: A very good source of Vitamin C and Phosphorus.
Companion Plants: Lettuce, spinach and peas. Avoid proximity to squash, cucumbers, and pumpkins.
