Japanese Sonic is a vigorous onion variety, very early to mature, with semi-globe shaped bulbs with straw coloured skin of medium thickness - excellent taste. Good yield for its type.

SOW:   from mid August through mid September

HARVEST:  Spring

WHERE TO SOW:

Sow very thinly in 1.5cm deep drills, leaving about 25 cm  between rows.
Thin seedlings to about 2.5cm in late Autumn - thinnings to be removed  to avoid Onion Fly attack. Further thin the onion seedlings to about 10 cm between plants in the Spring.

Tips: When lifting onions, use a fork to ease them partly out and then return in 2-3 days to lift fully. Leave the onions lying on the surface for several more days, to ripen. To prepare for storage, dry off completely and rub off any dead foliage and skin, which may be a source of fungal infection.
