Moss Curled Parsley is a very popular standard curled type, of crisp texture. Can be grown and harvested indoors on a window sill, or started off indoors and transferred to the vegetable patch when the risk of frost has passed. The plant is only useful as a herb before it starts producing seed (which is will do in its second year as it is a biennial).
SOW: For eventual outdoor transplantation sow in March indoors
HARVEST: from July to the following July.
WHERE TO SOW:
Parsley takes longer than most herbs to germinate (requiring high temperatures!) and does require a reasonable rich soil to grow well.
We recommend germinating Parsley indoors on a warm window sill until seedlings have sprouted.
Almost fill the pot with moist seed compost. Scatter 5 seeds on the surface and then cover with a thin layer of compost.
Once seedlings are large enough to handle can be transplanted into final position.
Companion planting:
Parsley is a companion plant to
Tomato and
Asparagus.
Parsley can suffer from Carrot fly - Carrot fly can be deterred by
Rosemary,
Sage and
Wormwood.
